Living on Purpose

The quality of a persons’ life will always be in direct proportion to the nature and quality of the questions he or she is willing to ask of themselves.  Sadly, few people do so, we’re not raised to do it by the authority figures in our lives, or the teaching methods found in our traditional educational system.

The most essential question of all to answer is that of establishing purpose. It took me 32 years to find my purpose, and I consider myself fortunate as many people go through life without ever knowing their purpose.

Leaders live on purpose. Everyone is a leader, it just depends to what extent they are prepared or capable of living like one. Without clarifying purpose, how can anyone establish what success should look like? How can we expect to inspire others to find theirs? Everyone has a purpose, our challenge is becoming aware of it. The two most important days in your life are the day you were born and the day you understand why you were born. It’s a big question to pose to ourselves, hence why most people avoid doing so, but just stop and think for a moment….. what are the implications of not asking the question?

I can only reflect on my own experience,  and I know that for me it would mean settling for a life of mediocrity.  That is exactly how I’d describe my adult life before finding purpose. I was relatively successful, I had a lovely home, my beautiful wife, and a six-figure income, yet something significant was missing from inside of me

that prevented me from being fulfilled. I lacked the necessary self- awareness at this point in my life to ask those essential questions that would unlock the answer from within me. That situation was the cause of the problem,  the effect manifested itself in my life through the destructive habits of weekend alcoholic binges and a dependency on nicotine.

Purpose allows you to set your intention for everything you do. Only when purpose is established can a compelling vision be created, one that can then be underpinned by meaningful goals. James Allen put it so well when he said “until thought is linked with purpose there can be no intelligence accomplishment”.

Purpose is the foundation of success, the very first step of the journey.  I think there is only one way to succeed: do what you can do the best and just do it. Search your talents until you find your passion. What cannot be relied upon is the hope that it finds you first. lortabs depakote er

Finding purpose is not easy, it demands serious thought of a person, a skill many of us are not practised in. However, the rewards are exponential.  The modern economy provides a wealth of opportunity to earn a very good living doing what you love, do not be fooled by industrial age thinking that decrees that you can’t live your purpose and earn great money – the truth is you can and, if you chose to explore a little, you’ll find that some people already do.

So how do you begin the process of establishing purpose?  Answer the following questions:

·         What in my current day to day activities do I love doing?

·         What has meaning and heart for me?

·

What subjects am I passionate about?

·         What do I feel compelled to change in the world?

You may find you have to keep coming back to those questions, that’s to be expected, they’re making you think. Once you’ve answered them and you’ve established what it is that you’re passionate about, ask friends and colleagues the following questions:

·         What am I doing when I’m at my best?

·         What do you consider me to be world class at?

It is important to calibrate that your talent and passion mix, some people are very passionate about a subject they are just not talented in – think of the opening rounds of the X Factor or American Idol!

Purpose often lies dormant in our passions, and our passions tend to manifest in our talents. Be willing to explore who you are and prepare to be both surprised and delighted at what you find.
